A LITTLE ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Peter Grzybowski

I lead, advise on, and write about enterprise software platforms.

For more than 20 years, I have worked across the full platform lifecycle, from strategy and vendor selection through implementation, governance and day-to-day operations.

My career has taken me from large-scale enterprise environments to leading core corporate systems today. Alongside that work, I help software companies pressure-test big deals, help organisations check a purchase or renewal before they sign, and coach BAs and product owners stepping into platform roles. I also write about what really happens after the pitch, implementation and go-live.

Enterprise platforms, end to end

I have spent most of my career sitting on the owner and buyer side of enterprise technology. That means selecting platforms, building business cases, navigating implementations, managing vendors, dealing with what happens after go-live, and ultimately being accountable when the software has to work in the real world.

Today, I lead the strategy, governance and operations of core business systems for a national organisation. My work spans platform roadmaps, vendor relationships, investment decisions, service performance and the ongoing challenge of making technology work for the people who depend on it.

Before that, I spent 15 years at ANZ, working across major enterprise technology programmes and platforms supporting a workforce of 55,000 employees across 33 countries. That included platform selection, implementation, adoption, operations and the transition from transformation programmes into long-term ownership.

For my first 4 years I was an analyst/programmer at Aviva, maintaining large in-house life insurance applications: fixing bugs and delivering new features. I know what it takes to build and support the software, not just buy it.

Alongside my corporate career, I’ve built a commercial product from scratch, and spent 3 years mentoring start-up founders and their product teams. That has shown me how technology is built and sold, as well as how enterprise buyers evaluate it, challenge it and eventually have to live with it.

Evolt Active: a product built from scratch

As part-time Digital Lead at Evolt IOH from 2016 to 2019, I led Evolt Active, the cloud social and analytics platform behind the Evolt 360 body composition analyser. I owned the strategy, roadmap, MVP and launch, bringing hardware and software together into one experience. Every scan became data members could track over time and share, and gyms could use it to keep their clients engaged.

It grew to thousands of users across hundreds of gyms on Australia’s east coast. Our Project Evolt challenge awarded A$250K: A$100K each to the biggest male and female transformations over 90 days, and A$50K to the winning gym. On the vendor side, that meant winning over gym owners, handling support after launch and deciding what to build next with a small team and a tight budget.

The common thread

What connects my corporate work, start-up work and writing is pretty simple: I like understanding how technology works in the real world.

I’m interested in how platforms actually perform, why decisions get made, where things don’t go as planned, and what people can learn from that. Sometimes that means challenging a vendor pitch or checking a renewal before it’s signed. Sometimes it means working through a platform roadmap. Sometimes it becomes an article for Systems & Scale.

After more than 20 years, I still enjoy the same part of the work: making sense of a messy situation and helping people make a better decision.
